So I may have to return some 6600 shifters and will most likely only have the 5700/6700 option for replacing them at the store.

So here's the question:

Anyone run these with an older front der? That's what I want to do.

In theory it should be fine and a front derailler is a front derailler for the most part but I have read that the new shifter/new front der combo is the one combo you should keep "A" level compatible...

Shimano says my way is 'B' level compatibility.

Also, anyone here use the new 105 5700 stuff? Whadya think of it?

The new left shifters have to trim click from the big ring. That could be a problem, if you've normally had to use the trim click with the big ring and larger cogs (don't use the big/big).

The reach to the brake hoods is also longer.

5700 and 6700 levers work fine with a 6600 FD. BTW, the 5700 stuff is just coming on the market now.
