Awoke to a quake with the bed shaking at 5 AM, if this is what is feels like I am not living anywhere in a quake zone, no way.

5 miles from the epicenter of Northridge quake - felt like the end of the world. On the east coast, building standards are much weaker, so a 5.0 could be a very major problem. Earthquake insurance is cheap on the east coast. As someone who used insurance for $200k of repairs, I say buy it.

Quake was felt as north as Hackensack,N.J. Apparently 3 stories of parking space came down like a pancake in a highrise.

3.7? really?
i agree that building codes in the east don't account for earthquakes like they do here in southern cal. but 3.7 just doesn't feel like anything more than a large truck driving by. so unless the building's collapsing around you, it's nothing.
having said that, there's not way in hell i'm ever moving to hurricane or tornado country. :)

I don't wake up unless it's 5.5 or bigger. 45 years in Kalifornia and you don't get too upset and just enjoy the ride.

This is obviously a message "from above" to those evil East Coast Wall Street and Mortgage Banking people and our equally suspect politicians in Washington.
Repent you sinners ! Repent !
First it was the heatwave, now earthquake - what is next pray tell ? Cicadas ? Frogs ? More doping revelations in the Tour ?
More carbon steerer problems for Trek ?
Man, this Book of Renovations stuff has me worried.
Way down south in Arlington County (albeit North Arlington) I felt nothing.

We've already had a number of earthquakes (5.0+) here in San Diego, UFO sightings in China, Lebron going to Miami... what is the world coming to. May be it's signs for things to come... 2012!

I woke up like a shot at 5:05AM. There was a second of "What the hell?..." But unless there as a major train crash going on nearby it could only be a quake.
I was surprised to find out that there was a rumbling sound. I thought that was a Hollywood creation.
