I have an Ultegra 9-speed setup and it’s time for a new chain. Are there any appreciable differences in performance between the standard Shimano chains and chains made by SRAM or Wipperman (aside from the removable links)? The thought of being able to easily remove the chain for better cleaning is appealing. I keep my chain clean and well lubed, so rust has never been an issue. Thanks.

I find the SRAM chains work better than Simano. I really line the removable link for cleaning.

Nope.

The two top line SRAM chains, Whipperman (nickel) and DA chains are comparable in performance. You won't find any difference except in your wallet.

The answer might change if you are fitting a VERY short chainstay bike. In my experience the DA chain is just a tad more flexible.
