Mavic 840 & 841 rear derailleurs use the same index pull ratio as DA 8 sp.
we have 7700 shifters with a 7400 RD on my gf's bike.
it works, but it skips up or down on a couple low gears. this causes a lot of premature wear and i wouldn't recommend it. a new RD for her is planned soon.

Can anyone tell me what other rear derailleurs would work with DA 8 speed STI levers? Thanks
What you'll find when using any Shimano non-DA (other than 74xx series) rear derailler with DA 8 speed shifters, it will shift 8 positions but each click will travel at 9 speed cog increments.
And for additional trivial info, using any Shimano non-DA 9 speed shifters with any 74xx series (older Dura Ace) rear derailler, will shift across a Shimano 8 speed cassette cleanly.
That said, I'm hopelessly outdated and still am using 8 speed DA stuff on my 90's TSX Merckx... (single pivots and DT shifters!)
