Was searching the Ribble website and noticed different sections for foldable and rigid clinchers. Just curious what the ral difference, aside from the obvious, foldable and not. Rigid, Vittoria Rubino for example, half the cost of foldable.

Folding tires use a bead made of kevlar whereas a wire bead is used in non-folding tires (something along those lines anyway).

Folding tires are much easier to install, while the non-folding steel bead can often ruin thumbs for hours later after attempting installation of new tires. Rim shape is also a consideration here, but I went from non-folding to folding a year or so ago, and have never looked back!

It's plenty easy to get sore thumbs with folding bead tires, too.

To avoid sore thumbs try rolling the majority of the tire around the top/backside of the rim and try to press the bead on with the palm/pad of your hand.

Technique definitely does make a difference.
