anyone have any experience with planet-x brand brakes. they sure look nice, and @ 150 a set, they're hard to beat for ultralight brakes??

I have these brakes (same as in the picture) on the Lynskey, and I like the stopping action. If you like the duel pivot Shimano action, these brakes are not for you. I like these brakes because the stopping power is equal to the amount of force I apply to the levers.

I will also add that Scott at Planet X USA is terrific to work with.

FYI, I originally had Campy 11 (Record shifters) and now use Ultegra 6700.

I had a Kaffenback cross frame. It was nice enough.

figured i'd update this with some pics and a review:

after reading a recent thread on another site, and being pointed to the planet-x ultralight brakes, i figured i would order a set, given their super price of 149.

first off, i will say that i'm super impressed with the shipping, i had these brakes in hand today, about 2 days after i ordered them, thats impressive.

i installed them and went for a quick 30 mile ride, which is pretty hilly. these brakes are super for the price. at a claimed weight of 205g for the pair, they really work very well. they have a cool cam actuation system which really adds some nice linear, pretty powerfull braking power. for ultralight single pivot brakes, these suckers really stop the bike!!

fit and finish are excellent, exceeding my expectations by far for a 150 $$ set of brakes. they come pre-loaded with swiss stop pads, which is a great bonus and really makes them seem like a super value.

i've never used the more expensive ultralight brakes, but i cant imagine they would be any better than these. they dont stop quite as well as the chorus calipers i replaced them with, but pretty damned close, and the weight difference is definitely noticeable in hand.

overall, really a needless little upgrade, as the rest of the bike has fairly heavy parts on it, but i'm very happy with them, and i highly recommend.

So that is what the red version looks like ... makes me wonder if I should have gotten that set instead of the black.

Ah well, regardless Scott is awesome to work with! I am glad you like the brake set.

Cheers.
