I'm about to attempt my first wheel build. I wanted to try tubeless for my commuter--Stan's alpha 340s with King hubs, DT Super Comp spokes and Hutchinson Intense tires. I just received the spokes and a DT Swiss spoke wrench from ebay today, so I am ready to go (with Brandt's book in hand). Here's my question: the spoke wrench came with a second piece and I have no idea what this is for (see attached image). It looks like it might hold the spoke to prevent it from twisting while truing. Can some one confirm this?

Correct, it has a narrow slot that opens up down at the tip. Slip it over the spoke and slide it down on top of the spoke wrench. Get it close so there's no twisting of the spoke right above the spoke wrench. They used to sell a really nice steel one but you really don't need all that much -- a saw cut in a piece of plexiglass or wood will usually work.
