need some new skewers for my second set of wheels. one of the skewers for my Fulcrum 5's just dont close right anymore, and i dont trust them, so i'm looking for something nice. if they are nice enough i'll use them on my everyday wheels, and move my current cheapy skewers to my back-up wheels.

does anyone have skewer recommendations. i'd like something light and relatively good looking. above all, they just have to work.

Zipp skewers: Ti shaft, light weight, nice smooth strong lever, flawless operation, reasonable price.

Salsa is the standard, IMO. Strong, dependable, umpteen colors to match whatever you want to match. DA's are fabulous as well. Speaking of skewers, the newer Campy ones are double-bag ugly. Jeff N.

i should have mentioned : DA is out of the question. my bicycle will explode if anything shimano touches it. i am fairly certain of this.

Maybe, but even if your bike does explode...those wheels ain't coming off. ;)

I have Salsa Ti on my Campy bike and they get along just fine... plus I love the Rasta theme... :D

Never had a problem with Salsa-- have them on 4 bikes with no issues. Only problem with Salsa is that they come, to the best of my limited knowledge, only in 135mm rear length. Cutting to 130mm (or whatever) length is no big deal-- I use a Dremel tool.

I just left mine as is... seemed like too much trouble for 5mm ;)

Uncle William is correct.

Older style Record/Chorus grip like DA.

I have Record ( few years old, closed cam) skewers.
The grip is tenacious.

After I added a new set of Ligero wheels to my Look, I needed a set of skewers to keep them from falling off. Troy recommended skewers from Far and Near.
They're light (if that matters,) hold my wheels. and look cool. Far and Near was started by the guy that designed KCNC's skewers, a fave of the weight weenie crowd.

In a crash, the 5 mm of shaft hanging out past the nut could do some serious damage. I cut my Salsas (with a dremel) so the end of the shaft is flush with the nut. Before cutting, I put a spare nut on the 'good' side of the shaft to use as a guide, removing the nut after cutting helped clean the freshly cut threads. A little filing ensured no sharp edges.
