MONTREAL – A 57-year-old cyclist, Jacques Michaud, has died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night on a roadway in the small town of Val Morin, about 92 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

A 44-year-old woman was arrested and is expected to appear in court Monday to face a charge of impaired driving causing death, according to Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Richard Gagné.

About an hour north of the city. Looks like this person was drinking and will be charged--not that it is matters to the victim or family.

I'd say be safe--but tough to avoid being hit from behind by a speeding car. I guess we could give up road riding and mountain bike.

In other news: the one place we can ride here in the city without fear of cars (the F1 / Nascar closed loop road circuit) is being closed to road cyclists. We go too fast and the tourists from the casino complain because they cannot freely drive their cars around the circuit.

In the other case (the motorist who ran down six cyclists, killing three), the driver hadn't been drinking, and wasn't even charged.

The moral of the story is this: you're free to run down and kill cyclists, as long as 1) you haven't been drinking, and 2) you don't leave the scene afterwards. :crap:

Yep. I've always said that if I ever decide to kill somebody and don't want to do any time for it that I hope they're a cyclist. The old "But officer - I never saw them while I was texting and changing a CD and doing the crossword" works every time.
