Ok, we all know Eric Clapton and Robin Williams love bikes. But, what other famous people can we add to the list *and* has anyone ever bought or sold bikes to a celebrity?

I'll go first... I have had two Gannsari's in my hands, a Scorcher and a Van Cleeve. I wish I would have kept them but the first helped me land a Toei, the other got me on a sweet Bilenky Porteur bike.

I sold the Scorcher to Brian Ritchie, founder and drummer for the Violent Femmes. The second went to Jeff Campitelli, drummer for Joe Santriani!!!

Both loved the Gannsari's!

Oh, and I bought a Landshark from another drummer but not a famous band.

They were a club band in Jersey and I can't remember the band name:(

zack from "saved by the bell" races cat3 or 4 in CAL and the track also. I think I saw an article where the main character from the 90's movie "can't buy me love" is an avid cyclist.

Nascar Driver, Bobby Labonte is an avid cyclist ( he is a big Serotta fan). You can see him riding out and about in the Thomasville NC area.

There are a number of current and past NHL'rs that live in this town.

An astounding number of them ride during the summer.

Weekend rides are getting bigger as the playoffs winnow the teams down.

Some of those guys can really motor. Not great climbers, but big diesels.

From hockey: Zdeno Chara is has ridden some TdF stages, including the Alpe d'Huez. He may have time to do this again now that the Bruins are out of the playoffs. Also, former Rangers goalie Mike Richter is supposed to be quite a cyclist.

Yes.

Trevor Linden and Jarome Iginla both live here and ride a LOT.

Linden is serious about it, rides a Look CF with BIG deep dish wheels and is strong as an ox. He also rides the Trans-alps MTB race , and I believe ahs done the Trans-Rockies as well.

I've seen Richter riding with him, and that takes effort.

ConanConan O'Brien rides a Serotta. What would Conan the Barbarian ride? :)

Conan's father: "Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts." [Points to steel bicycle frame.] "This you can trust."

On a similar note, Michelle Pfeiffer was one of the people quoted in "The Quotable Cyclist" with something about how she really liked to work on her bicycle - it was a stress reliever for her. I have to figure she rode it sometimes also. I knew there was something I liked about her.

many World Superbike, Supersport and MotoGP racers.Off the top of my head I know:

Ben Bostrom (AMA SBK & Supersport Champion) placed second in the solo class at last year's 24 Hours of Moab.

Ben Spies (WSBK Champ and current MotoGP rider) raced at Moab and does a lot of training on the road. He's good friends with Lampre's DS Brent Copeland.

Troy Bayliss (3 time WSBK Champ)

Thanks for that. I think I've seen it before, but it'd been a while. Bobby looked YOUNG in that, which he still pretty much was in 1992.

In an odd way, I'm a cyclist because of the Dead. Or maybe more because of the lack of the Dead. They were kind of a big time-sink of mine until Jerry died in 1995. I'd go to a few shows every summer and I was pretty into trading tapes and staying up on their goings on. My kids were little and being into the Dead was pretty compatible with spending a lot of time around the house, so it worked out well. When Jerry died I pretty quickly realized I needed another outlet, the kids were at an age where I could get out of the house more, and a friend of mine convinced me to check out mountain biking. Got my first decent bike (a steel hardtail) in spring of 1996, lusted after that Grateful Dead Fisher model, and rode mtb a LOT that first summer. By September, I'd bought a Specialized road bike and it was all over. After a year on that, I bought an early Rivendell and started riding 5,000 miles per year for the next ten years or so. I've eased up a bit over the last few years, but the end of the Dead was a big part of getting me started in this.

Not sure if this counts, but I bought a Seven once that was given to Bobke for some promotional thing. I even had the build sheet with his name on it. Don’t remember what happened to that bike, was many years back.

Walter "Humble" Röhrl - better than Eddy ;)

"But best of all were the bicycling holidays I took with Eddy Merckx in Italy and France.
Every year we’d drum up a handful or two of fellow bicycle nuts, all of them former Tour de France contestants with one exception: me.
We’d ride about sixty-five miles a day, at a leisurely pace in a group in the valleys.
But whenever we came to a pass, it was all about attacking. I won the mountain sections three years in a row, with no one even close."
