View Full Version : Post your All-time Favorite cycling picture here

Post your all-time favorite cycling picture here. I know we have tried this before but with limited success, this is another go at it with some extra help and "guideline" to ensure maximum participation.
1) Everyone get ONLY one shot at it, we don't need Dave Thompson posting every two seconds, no exception, so use it wisely. There's a loophole you can take advantage of, I will explain later.

2) It MUST be cycling-related, don't go post your sharks/dogs/squirrels pics, Which part of the word "cycling" you don't understand, STUPID! :crap: :p
3) Don't agonize too long over what is "all-time", just put in what you like at that time and move on, if everyone contributes, this would be a good post to come back again and again just for the quality of the pictures.
4) Some suggestions: can be anything monumentals, epics, beautiful, sexy, tragic, controversial, one-of-its-kind, funny, outrageous, historic whatever...BUT related to C-Y-C-L-I-N-G

And lastly, I don't want to miss out on anyone esp. those of us who are technically-challenged, so here's an extra tip: If your picture is too big, download this image resizer and re-configure it to under the forum picture size limit: http://www.imageresizer.com/
If it's a picture you saw on the internet, you can copy the url and paste it here directly using the "Insert image" button (the one that looks like Mount Fuji)

Is everyone clear? :p

Oh yeah, I did say everyone gets one shot at this...but if you really have to and can't help yourself, here's what you do: Go back to your original post, and swap out the old picture with something new. Whatever you do, keep to one post.

Are we good? Okay, let's go!

Me first.

hmmm, I have about a 3 way tie for first. Took this one in Italy at the TdF last year. Not technically awesome but sums up the energy and vibe of the Tour for me. . . .

1972 Tour de France. Guimard is giving Merckx a run for his money through the mountains, but his knee pain gets to the point where attendants are carrying him to his bike at the start of each stage. Eventually he abandons. After the Tour, he is given the honor of presenting the green jersey to, who else, Merckx. Merkcx pushes it back into Guimard's hands, saying, "The honor is yours. You earned it." Guimard weeps.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

2004 Milan San Remo Friere wins while Zabel looks on. It would have been his 5th win in this race. Thankfully, he won another classic the following year at Paris Tours.

Lemond winning the Worlds and the Hampsten on the Gavia are my favs. I remember reading that Lemond didn't feel good at the start of the race and wasn't sure that he'd finish. It really does show the intensity - largely due to his expression not being hidden by sunglasses that is the norm today.

Epic thread! When I was a kid my I used to read the Bicycle a book my dad had. This was really a key book for me as it was a history of sorts and it had amazing pictures of the gear and the racers up until that time (1970s).

One of my favorites is an art piece by the late great Bresson:

That is indeed Museeuw riding second wheel to Duclos-Lasalle in the '94 P Roubaix. They were chasing Tchmil who had already disappeared off the front. That frame was Bianchi's great experiment. The frame eventually cracked and Museeuw had to change bikes. There was one small issue, though, and that was that he couldn't get his shoes out of the pedals. GB were using those Diadora pedals that were sold back in the early 90s. Museuuw's mechanic had to run up and grab him before he toppled over and grab his heels to wrench his feet out of the pedals.

Lessons learned there. His equipment choices after that were quite conservative.
