I guess we can add that to the IRD and Velo Orange ones. Old skool resurgence?

Curious what the market for this kind of stuff is.. young folks building up neo-retro builds? Seems like people doing restoration style projects are going to stick to the original stuff...

Maybe not quite their intended market, but this is what I did with one:

Its a nice crank at a nice price. To help keep the cost down they saved a little back side polish, but its a great alternative the the Sugino RD/ Messenger.

Good for FSA. I still prefer the look of alloy cranksets.

One of the local racers (Ethan) has the IRD Defiant crank on his Kazane (the gold one).

It looks pretty nice to me, but I like my Kazane KZ1 because it looks like an old Campagnolo crank...

Problem is with square taper, if you go original, you have to use a campy bottom bracket and you're pretty much stuck with campy from then on, which gives you a pretty small selection.

These all take jis taper BBs, which are cheap, plentiful and available anywhere so when the old school stuff starts feeling dated, there's millions of jis taper cranks out there to swap out...

Do riders on this forum want to emulate your basic urban messenger? This crankset plays specifically to that market in price, general style, and throwing an old and inexpensive-to-license name on it. There are a bunch of similar classic-style cranksets in the market now aimed at the messenger-wannabe market -- college students, hipsters, and of course messengers. It's been years since there's been a really good new track crankset on the market. Everything plays to new fashionista trends, like the SRAM Omnium, which meets the demand for a track crankset with outboard bearings -- not that outboard bearings do anything for you or weren't tested by Shimano and others and rejected for sound reasons on the track. Oh well.
