I haven't seen a discussion of this particular combo, perhaps for obvious reasons (really pricey crank and you still have 10 speed). The thing is, (a) I trashed my 10 speed crank, (b) a team mate has a spare super record crankset and will cut me a deal, and (c) it seems as if it ought to work -- the 10 speed chain should fit fine on the chain rings and everything else will be as usual.

Anybody?

works fine. i was considering the same thing for a while, and while i was slowly building my bianchi this was the set-up i was running for a few hundred problem free miles.

According to the peeps a campy only, there doesn't seem to be a problem. I was going to do it, bought a record 11 crank to go compact on my 10 speed, then I got a deal on some 11 speed parts that happened to come with a compact 10 speed crank. So I will no longer need to run the different speed cranks, but I did the research.

Thanks folks.

Actually, a local wrench I trust suggested that I use the 10 speed chain rings from my broken crank. I think I'll go that way, because the rings are still in good shape; and if I decide to switch to 11 speed down the road I'll just switch back to the 11 speed chain rings, which won't get any wear in the meantime.
