View Full Version : Replacement cost for a Campy Record high-flange track hub (front)...

So go figure...my son has probably done less than 40 hours of road riding and he got hit by a car. He's okay, a bit banged up (he got the worse in a right turn squeeze play), but his fixie's front wheel took the bullet. The wheel is dressed with a Fir EL 20 clincher (w/ grommets) rim and the subject hub. I don't think there's a chance of finding a matching rim so he might aim for something that closely matches it, like an Open Pro. You folk might have other suggestions. We do want to replace the hub and am working with the driver's dad to settle the score. Any suggestions beyond ebay as a source for these hubs? What do you think is a reasonable cost for one?

Thanks

Plain or 'sheriff star' model?

I think the sheriff star models can only be purchased by gold nuggets or won in a gun duel. Well, at least thats what the price reflects on eBay for the rear. The front however should be a bunch cheaper, I would expect around 40-90$ varying in condition.

Based on mind's eye (bike ain't in front of me), I think is was the plain version.

if its the one that would match this hub then it's plain.

notice the lack of an oil clip. if it has the oil clip then it's a road hub with a track axle installed.

replacement cost for a front track hub is probably around $100 give or take.
is the hub that was on the bike actually messed up? if not i'd just have a good builder relace a rim to the hub...

but with the brakes released the wheel wouldn't even spin. One side of the hub the flange is bent inward and it looks like the axle housing portion got kinked. Toast. F/F & kid look reasonably good.

If it had to happen...this is the way it should go down. Glad my son got a good taste of reality. Best he have some respect. 19-25 yr olds can get mighty cocky.

That looks like a 'no-Record' one in your photo, which makes it 1963 or earlier (unless the 'Record' stamp is just hidden from that angle...).

yeah it's a no record hub actually, but i didn't expect many folks to catch that detail...

The cheaper way to go is find an old campy road hub and use the EAI/Saavedra/wheels soild axle kit.

What is the profile on the Fir rim? Cant find a picture online.
