Custom stitching has been a rather popular option.

So I am now wondering ...

Is their any interest out there in monogramming bar wrap ?
Specifically, the ability to custom stitch any lettering into the wrap.
Currently about 19 thread colors are possible.

Is this a desirable option? Should I offer it ? Viable idea ?

thanks in advance ... !!!!

My interest depends upon the cost...

I bet Smiley would be some KB wrap for his new all-rounder.

agree with Legendti. It depends on cost, but I am very interested!

Sounds like a great idea. Bring it on! :)

Would the initials just appear once? or would they be repeated over the entire bar? I think it could look cool if done right.

Custom Lettering followed by stitched in pattern
Many patterns exist.

and then repeat thru entire wrap about every 3-4 inches or so.

Lettering then pattern then lettering then pattern, keeps repeating

the pattern fills in the empty space between the lettering.

I am working on embedding Vector Images.... I have NOT
been able to figure this out yet. I have some pieces of the puzzle.
I have not found a sewing machine that sews in vector images.
I have found machines with built in fonts.

Currently, to install a vector image, the item to be sewed has to be
placed in a hoop and then the then vector images in sewed in.
The wrap would have to be repositioned many many times on the hoop to
sew the entire length. This is labor intensive.

Lettering is time consuming, BUT one just has to run the wrap thru
the machine. No embroider hoop to contend with.

I think it would be cool to have bar wrap stitched with the framemaker's logo as an option - i.e. the Serotta "S".

I'm not real sure what you are describing. Is the monogram to be stitched? How about just an impression of the monogram on the leather? Is that possible? very understated if you could do it.

How would you design this so that the monogram does not dictate the wrapping method or is that a consideration?

Innovation must be your middle name because you are constantly looking to make improvements. Nobody can fault you for being stagnant.

Nice idea. I think that I have seen this on other leather products but cannot recall a specific picture to reference.

what would 'spiderman' look like on bar wrap...
...or as a custom leather top tube protector
for 'my fixie'...??

This is kind of what I had in mind. Embossed was the term that escaped me in my earlier post.

+1 on this idea... but the stitching would also be unique - and perhaps better on the hands?

Pressed embossing is easy. but first one must create the stamp.
The tool die to impress the design. I can do this.

The problem is .......

This die runs several thousand of our nation's private central bank
non-redeemable notes to create. for each individual die that is ...

Non - trivial up front cost to embed your stamped "logo"

Great idea ... that is the goal .... The "S" is a vector image.

That is embedding the vector image. ... just like they do on T- shirts.
Problem is T-shirts are not 8 ft long. In HB, the logo has to be stitched
in every x inches. T-shirts, jackets, are not fed thru a sewing machine.
The HB wrap is ....

Embroidering a vector image on done on a hoop. The material is
stretched tight on a hoop and then the image is computer stitched.

Let's say the hoop is 1 ft in diameter. and the wrap is 8 ft.
The machine embeds the logo every x inches in 1 ft bites.
One would have to manually transpose the wrap 8 times thru the
hoop to stitch 8 ft. This is a lot of manual labor and not efficient.

Sewing machines can stitch text into the wrap ( in several fonts).
The fonts are pre-programmed into the machine.
But I have not located a machine yet that can stitch in logos
(vector images) as one runs the wrap thru the sewing machine.

design repeats every x ( thinking x= 3 or 4 ) inches ..

Has zero effect on wrapping..

x is trivial to adjust.

I'm not sure what kind of die you were describing, but it looks like you need one of these.http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.gallupindependent.com/2005/dec/120605images/detail1206.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.gallupindependent.com/2005/dec/120605beltco.html&usg=__sh6ueGbP-X5f53I04fI9T4Z4Nyo=&h=251&w=345&sz=33&hl=en&start=5&sig2=JnOe35PDskvr_fsrzb1fxA&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=XHl2QGVpyZGHwM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dleather%2Bembosser%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den %26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26channel%3Ds%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=HIzGS7KrOpC4Nv-M8boI

Bingo ... the machines we got, just not the custom dies.

I've been experimenting with Kelly Bedford's Logo. building a few
prototypes .... I'll post some images soon.

I like the idea but for me the one issue I have with my hanlebra wraped bikes is the bar tape (not supplied) that looks cheap in contrast to the wrap. A nice quality (sticky backed leather?) tape embosed or stiched would give more bang for the buck. Have you considered adding a design to the wrap by perferations? Let's say a star pattern every so many inches or the like. This could be done with a much cheaper die cut system.
On a different topic I'm up in Vermont on a cycling vacation ( blessed with a warm spell) and visited a high end local bike shop. They checked out my bike and found it worthy not by the Super Record or 953 frame or EE brakes but by the Handlebra sport tape!!!
Keep up the good work

Ray,

I think both the perforated idea and the monogram are two awesome business ideas!!
