sure that i saw that bicycle while visiting the alex singer
atelier last september. i think those are TA rings, but i'm
not sure about the cranks.

one thing i am sure about is this: chrissi hynde* is a fox
and the pretenders are one seriously badass band.

yeah - i am watching VH1 and the rock n roll hall of
fame inductees are being inductee-ited.

precious.

Christian,
This one you've pictured iis a TA Alize. The Carima is etched as such and uses an adapter to adjust to various bcd. Look here for another shot of the same crank at the Singer shop: <http://www.ece.ubc.ca/~gillies/singer/images/image005.jpg>

My own blue Singer is now with Mike Barry. We are making yet another stem, a match for the original but longer to suit my more stretched out self. The bikes you see in the window of Singer shop are for display, some of them being frames brazed by Roland Csuka who made the frames until his death (they are now made off the premises and the bikes are constructed by his brother Ernest, as they have been for so very many years). Roland worked as a welder at Citroen and built frames at night; there is a great picture of him in my archive (and I can find it if folks are interested).

There is so much to admire about these bikes, of course, not the least of which is that they have a notion of fenders that, well, virtually no American bike ever approaches (unless such bike have studied these!)

It's a shame that there are no more Zephyr cranksets, though I confess there are a few here in the basement. Well, take care all!

Hi Douglas,

I don't think it's an Alize'. The Alize' has an integrated silver spider, and this thing looks like it has a separate black spider with cutouts. The arms look like a Carmina or Alize', so that's why I thought it was a Carmina, but I don't think the Carmina spider is cut out.

I'm a sucker for cutouts -- I think the Miche Supertype is the prettiest crank ever...

Alize Light with Red Hegoa chainrings and optional Auto-Extractors in r

I think this crank will look So.....CooOOool on the red legend, infact, i think it will "complete" it as a package together with the Helium wheels (red-anodized rims). Anybody has any experience with this crank before? On the Peterwhite website, it's listed at $199. Is that the "best price"? :D

Peter White is about the only place to find an in-stock selection of TA stuff.

With the Zephyr no longer available, what are the options for a compact crankset using square taper bb?

The only options I've found are the Sugino double cranks sold by Jitensha:

XD double crank, which sells for about $115:

or the more expensive and apparently nicer, Cospea (which I believe is also known as Alpina), which list for $265; $295 with TA rings:

Anything else?
