I have been looking for an interesting cross bike for the lady for a while. There is an alleged Landshark cross bike on eBay currently, in my neck of the woods. Bike has recently had a thick powdercoat, obliterating any signs of the bike's origin.
What are the chances it is a Landshark or, at least, something of that ilk?

Listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330418893325&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Thanks!

I will throw in my two cents here.

That guy has 70+ feedback and 100%. If I were him, I won't risk my reputation by putting gross inaccuracies in my listing....not after coming this far. NO WAY!

If your ONLY question is whether this is truly a landshark, I will bid with confidence, trusting the seller with what he said. That's just me.

Not sure when John went from lugged to fillet brazed, but I do believe it was a very long time ago...Meaning, this frame is not so new.

Just my 2 cents, but contact Mr. Slawta, he is truly a nice guy. I'm sure he will give the skinny on this frame.

+1

I see no lugs on his site, and the bottom bracket looks like a cheap oldy to me. Do you really want a thick ugly powder coat job?

For sure there are lugged Landsharks, but older, from the eighties.

Whatever that is, it's a nice frame.

Hmmm, crown looks like Henry James, but lugs are not. BB height is low for a cross bike. No bargain there.

BB doesn't seem too low to me at 70mm drop

I know someone who got a lugged bike from Slawta last year.

Maybe not for modern cross tires that are much bigger and raise the overall height by a fair bit compared to old school cross tires. FWIW, Ridley uses 61mm drop, but Specialized is 69.

Thank you all for your valuable insight. The knowledge base on this forum is a unique asset.
Unfortunately, the bike was snapped up with Buy It Now while I was in the throes of indecision. So I guess the builder of the bike is moot ;) (sorry, couldn't help myself) and my quest continues.
Thanks again.
