Ride Group Size?

Hi all, just wondering, at your local club rides, do you limit the size of the groups that head out together??

nah. ours will range from 10 to 50.

Its never too much a problem. If it gets too big, then we do more to let cars pass us, and we slow the pace down.

Around here, the clubs don't limit size. Sometimes the rides start out 50+ strong, but soon split up, grouping again at predetermined catch-up points.

That sums it up for our group rides too. Even the 'B' ride gets too big many times but ends up with some natural (and often welcome) splits.

To start we split based on speed. A++, A, B, C and sometimes a B+. Each of these groups will vary from 10-50 riders. As others have stated, once on the road the groups often split again based on speed.

We have tried to split large groups (same speed) at the start but found that is does not work well. Damn near everyone wants to leave with the first group and even if you do get some split they tend to regroup at the first stop light.

Our groups range from 15 to 40, but after about 10 miles, it tends to break-up into groups of 8-10.
