got my REI dividend and am now searching for something i "need"
i don't rock climb as much these days, so their expanding bicycle sub-store is where i'm looking. coupled with the 20% coupon, a proper workstand looks like where i'm putting my money this year.
or a hitch mount rack..
or a wheelset..
or something else that's expensive but i guess i "need"

A watch. Jumped in a lake in Texas this weekend and now my watch has condensation in it. Surprising since this Timex has been wet dozens of times over the several years I've had it. The seals must be shot.

We spent ours on a Shower's Pass jacket for the wife. These never go on sale and the dividend check helped with the $235 price before discount.

A pair of thule echelons to replace my old rocky mounts. Those rocky mounts (at least from 2006) don't hold up as well as thule gear. I hear the new ones are better though.

I have heard about 3 relatives getting skin cancer. Bough the kids
foreign legion looking sun hats. Feeling protective since we are going
to the North Carolina beach next week.

The dividend and 20% discount might cover the cost of 5 tent pegs.

You will love it! Just make sure you can mount it to your bike... I had to fabricate and modify the mount so it would work. It would not work at all with any of my Serotta's.

Guess I'm a curmudgeon because I'm taking my $120 back in cash. Got most of that dividend from the cash back feature of the REI VISA card.

I like REI and I'm a longtime member, but their high prices, often msrp, put me off. Just seems like a co-op ought to be competitive on price, and they usually aren't even when factoring in the dividend.

my dividend continues to shrink as I buy fewer and fewer items there at MSRP. I have found the rei-outlet choices and prices to be less and less interesting as well. is this a signal I have all that i need?

I like to think that the dividend offsets Sales Tax and makes it competitive with online stores. Especially if you order online and have it shipped free to the local store.

we've pretty much abandoned REI for Sierra Trading Post , mostly because of REI's pricing (although their service and return policies are very good)..
