My wife and I had to leave early Sunday morning and we missed the awards. Can anyone point me to the results?
Thanks

Ur bike had the cleanist lugs lines I have ever seen shy of TDF lugs.

Well thank you and Kelly for that. I couldn't be more pleased. They are so nice I almost regret painting the bike black because it hides some of that detail unless you get up close.
Kelly had so many fine, varied and well executed frames in his booth you could have probably filled half the award categories from there alone.

Ellis best in show. I love it. Which frame was it? That guy has mad skills and one helluva painter and a wait list of only 6 months. Hurry!
Of course I am a bit biased having been surprised with an Ellis frame for Christmas (good wife). My wife and I ordered 3 more for my wife and two friends at the show. The stuffs just too good.

I would have to think it was the grey one with Di2?...that was the one bike I saw (that was actually for sale) that had me thinking, hmm, how could I justify bringing this home?
the whole awards discussion aside, this bike was definitely worthy imho.

I am going for a Bedford with lugs. Wasn't sure how i was going to explain it to my wife (er umm...honey i need a new bike cause one i got is wrong size and don't wanna wreck my knees). Actually, came home and told her i was excited. She said to go for it.

I too was really impressed with his bikes and spoke with Dave and his brother for a while. If it wasn't for the fact that it was Di2 I may have taken it home myself. It looked modern and classic at the same time. As I said to Dave it looked "purposeful yet classic". Don't even get me started on the polished stainless and black bike. Wow!
I also had a nice conversation with the Kirks. Their bikes look great and after seeing my first Terraplane up close I can say that I have completely changed my mind about the aesthetics of the bike. It looks very slick in person and with the new D KIRK logos it was a head turner. He also had bare filet brazed bike that makes you just want to clear coat it and ride it to show off the welds.
So, after looking at a lot of beautiful work today I decided that if get back on a steel bike it will most likely be a Kirk or an Ellis.
I already have two Ti bikes but if I didn't Kent Eriksen would be getting a call. Hell, he still may just for the coolest seatpost design going.
All in all it was worth the couple hundred mile drive to see such nice work and meet such good people.

Any news as to where it will be? Some day I will actually make it to this event!
Sounds fun.

Not wanting to be negative, but I've read that that seat post head design is not the best - very small aluminium (aluminum) teeth that can easily slip and score under load - just sayin' Try the PMP post, very secure. and easy to adjust.

Ellis really did stand out for me too Dave is another Serotta alum who,
it turns out built my custom Atlanta ten years ago!
Also; Ben was very nice to stand in his booth and subject himself to stupid
comments from people like me.
Can't understand how Pegoretti didn't get best paint (nothing against the
actual winner) Maybe award is for paint quality vs paint design
Serotta had 2 mevicis on display, one with natural carbon lugs and one with
white lugs. I was struck by how much fatter and chunkier the white lugs looked
I liked the natural ones much better. Optical illusion? Maybe I'll get one of each..
K Bedford's welding quality is off the charts IMO (what do I know?)
It just looks great.
Great show, learned a lot

The award for paint puzzled me too. I thought it would go to someone who actually painted the frame, not a builder, unless of couse the builder painted the frame.

I would think it is up to the bike maker to take credit for the paint if he did
it himself or let his painter have the trophy in his shop. An honor
either way.
These are by nature subjective awards so I guess we need to cut
the judges some slack. After all if JB wins for paint one year, and someone
else the next year, does that mean JB is suddenly doing less quality work?
Hardly.
The Ellis bikes had awesome paint too. Dave seems to have the whole package.
I guess that's why he got best of show.

Also of note is that the Ellis logos are stenciled paint under the clear coat. Does it work any better than decals? Not really, is it cool just because? Sure!

Serotta is also capable of that technique now. It allows the painter
total freedom to create any style/color they want without being tied to
a few decal types. They charge a lot, though.

Good to see Pete and a whole bunch of others in Richmond last weekend. I wish we could do it every year, or even a couple of times a year. Talking about bikes with folks who love them is the best.
This year, the Jury was made up of real experts. I gathered that they were looking less for bling than for excellence, whatever that might be, in the categories. For the most part the judges got it right. You might be able to quibble about this or that decision, but NONE of the winners were less than deserving (well maybe ours was).
Best paint. Joe Cosgrove does Darrell's paint and my guess is that the judges chose it because not only was the finish perfect from a technical perspective, but some of the really hard things about shooting candies, Joe nailed. Joe is one of those amazingly talented folks that you just don't hear about. Some of the other winners had paint that was not technically very good, but they weren't being recognized for their paint, but for something else.
Kelly deserved something, but what? He could have been recognized in about half the categories ...
PMP easy to adjust? Excuse me? Gorgeous and functional, yes, but a PITA to adjust.
Ben was his classy self, even amongst all that hubbub.
And Ellis ... amazing! Pictures can not do it justice. You have to see it in person.
This year especially, there was what seemed to me a feeling that we are all trying to do our best work, almost as a community. I overheard any number of conversations with builders offering help and advice to each other. And no snow ... Woo Hoo!
