Tech Q's for the tubie users... while I'm not a beginner with tubs by no means... has anyone used tufo tape before? opinions? I've heard mixed reviews.

Can I use Tufo tape on a good tire that I removed from an previous wheel where the base tape is in perfect shape but has a little glue if left on it? Combining that with a new rim...

I used to think the 3m fastack is da bomb... but it ruins good tubs upon dismount (I've had to warranty a few carbon rims in the past). It rips the base tape off the tub.

But I hate the mess of tubasti, or even worse... the vittoria red goo.

I thought I swore off tubs for good, but dang it, I have 6 good vitts that hold air... so what the heck... I'm going with a set for the dozen or so crits I have planned for this year.

insights?

Rich,

I've been using the Tufo tape with conti sprinters for about a year
now and have had little or no problem with it. I used the standard
tape, not the extreme. One minor inconvience is when I first mounted
the tires the tape was pressed out from under the tire a little in a few
areas, they picked up debris until I trimmed it, very carefully, with an
exacto knife.
I've heard (but have no experience with this) that the bond is strong
enough to tear the base tape off of non tufo tires. I've changed one
tire (had a cut in the sidewall) and did not have any problem removing
both the tire and tape.
Its less messy than Tubasti or mastic for a beginner, but if the glue is
applied correctly and left to dry to a light tack this shouldn't be too
much of a problem.
I don't think using the tape on a tire that has glue on the base tape
would be a problem, but you might send e-mail to Tufo to verify this.

Give Panaracer cement a go. If you ain't afraid of glue, thanks BostonDrunk, than stay with it. This cement is plenty strong and it's clear. After many more moons than I care to count using Conti. I'm digging this easier to work with goop.

ditto the pana. I'm using it with those super fantastic clements that can't possibly be any good because they are inexpensive and we know that means they must be bad.
