Is anyone out there using the Veloflex Record Clinchers? Care to share your experiences? I am curious whether the weight reduction renders them less resistant to punctures. Does the tread in general have a very short life? The roads I am riding on are quite good, but I'd like to hear any impressions nonetheless. Thanks!

One of the fastest for low rolling resistance, at the expense of durability and puncture resistance. At 140g, what would you expect? Truly a race only tire on smooth roads or for the track.

I use the Veloflex Pave/Black as a regular road tire in the summer. I'd consider the Master/Corsa version but that's iffy for road use and the Record would not be an option for general use.

You can get similar rolling resistance numbers from other tires now that, while somewhat heavier (180g-200g), will have far greater puncture resistance and tread life. Chiefly, the new 320tpi version of the Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX II:

For a comparison of other tires and rolling resistance, see Al Morrison's test results table. There is additional test data for newer tires since this revision in some of the posts there on biketechreview.com.

New tires of interest besides the Vittoria above include the Specialized S Works Mondo Open tubular & Bontrager Race Extra Light Pro and Aero TT. Also, note the comparison of butyl and latex tubes in the data.

you'll get more mileage out of it if you restrict it to just front tire use. the rear 500 miles maybe.
