I am trying to compare to different cross bikes by their serial #'s and I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the difference between CU and CT is.

The two frames are:
C-CU-54.5-0049
C-CT-52.0-1269

I think the C stands for custom, the last four digit number is the frame number produced that year, and the two digit number is the measurement. Correct?

I am assuming CT is actually C-T seat tube legth. Then what is CU?

Thanks for the help.

You are partially correct. The first C denotes a custom frame - could be geometry, could be tubeset, long or short top or head tube etc.

The numbers are the seat tube measurement in cm center to center.

The CT and CU are the model. I think the CT is for the Legend - originally called the Ti. No idea what model the CU is.

The last four digits are simply a sequential serial number so the 0049 is the 49th frame in that model, in any size.

The concours I recently sold had a CT as well. I saw another concours for sale with a CU in the serial number. wonder if it was a misprint.

The two letter prefix morphed over time on other models, so they could just be different year concourses.

I thought the "T" just meant titanium but I was guessing.

I think they tried making a few with Uranium.

But the negative effect on customers' birth rate led Ben to conclude that the "U" line was bad for future business.

A-ha, I take it you ordered one that also had the uranium railed saddle?
The plutonium models really did a number on business though.

Funny! Makes sense that the the CU vs CT may just be the difference in years and a change in designation. CU was a 2008 frameset while CT was a 2002 frameset.

I thought the CU was the ridiculously expensive Unobtanium frameset.

No way! If it was truly unobtanium, they would never have made as many as 49 of them!

The only serial number for an unobtanium frame is C-CU-55-0000
