i normally subscribe to the idea that you always get the good stuff when it comes to tools. but sometimes the cost just isn't justifiable for my needs. this has been the case with a smaller torque wrench for bike use.
in that vein, has anyone tried something less expensive than the ritchey tool?
something like this, that's only $50 on sale?

A torque wrench is a torque wrench is a torque wrench...in other words, any one will work. Get one from your local hardware store or Home Depot. No need to spend big $$.

I have what looks like an identical set from Nashbar that I bought in December - it was on sale and i had a coupon, and I ended up paying about the same price. It seems to work well and has a distinct click at torque, even the lowest torque values, which can sometimes be a problem. I think its a great value.

What are you going to be using it for? I use this little guy for things like stem/bars/seatpost, etc. Works great and it's very cost friendly.

There's lots of other options for sure and this one is too damn much money but I would buy another one...

"...How about this one?..."Which one is that?
I'm also in the market for one suitable for seatposts, stems, and handlebars.

You just failed the BMW mechanic's certification...

OK, on most bike parts I would have to agree, plus or minus 50% is just fine. Then again, you're not pulling down gaskets that need to sit flat, or dealing with 440 screws. I happen to own a Snap-On dial Torque-O-Meter 1/4' drive for use on things like the fuel regulator on my race car, but I've always been against the need for torque specs on bike parts. It's a bicycle, it sould be fixable on the road with an allen wrench set an a rock.

I got both Park torque wrenches during some sale. Helped get me out of a nasty overtightening habit.
