Manolo Saiz is vaguely threatening to blab, which should make a lot of people in Spain uneasy.

Why would he now, nearly four years after the fact, start naming names in the Operación Puerto doping scandal that cost him his job, his team and his happiness? He wouldn’t if he intended to continue heeding the bicycling world’s code of omerta: Don’t tell, don’t ask, don’t even drop a hint.

But — a big but — Saiz is feeling unloved. Nobody invites him to races, teams don’t call when they need an experienced and highly successful directeur sportif, hardly anybody remembers who he is or was — the head of a powerhouse team and a mover and shaker in the sport’s politics. Now he’s just a 50-year-old guy in the hotel business near Torrelavega, his home town in Spain...
