Everyone knows all about IF and Seven in the Boston area, and Peter Mooney got mentioned recently in a custom builder thread, but what do people know about a couple of other builders within a short drive of the hub?

Hot Tubes, out in Worcester, is well known for their "build your own frame" experience, but they make custom frames too. And Ted Wojcik in southern NH has been making frames for years.

What knowledge or experiences with these builders can anyone share? How do their ride qualities, custom experience, and workmanship compare with the other builders we know and love?

I'm not actually in the market, just a curious observer.

Don't forget Bob Parlee for his carbon bikes (Peabody, MA).

If you would go to Worcester or NH then you should include Richard Sachs (our own e-Richie) down in CT.

That's sort of what I was guessing too...maybe he can tell us when his website will be complete! Ever seen one of his frames in person?

Does Jim Lahey have a website up and running? I know he has a high demand for his lugwork..

Don't forget Peter White Cycles in NH., though his web site says he's not building frames at this time.

Ted Wojcik has been around for at least 20 years and enjoyed a small amount of popularity among road racers back in the mid-eighties.

webiste? what website? :-)

I am getting together some pics on my yahoo site while the pages are being built. I've just been having too much fun with e-Richie's and Kirk's new lugs to work on the website. But, it will come together soon. I promise.

Thanks for looking though!

Peter White no longer builds frames (bad back), which is a shame, given what he built early on and given his knowledge.

Here are two more within driving distance:

Chris does really nice work on just about any type of bike you'd want, and he paints beautifully. I just today saw one of his frames hanging in a shop that was gorgeous.

And then there's A.N.T., whose Mike Flannigan co-founded IF and then turned to some very interesting and socially progressive kinds of biking transportation (interestingly Chris Bull at Circle A is somewhat of an anarchist, so both these builders are political. It would be interesting to do a survey of the politics of custom builders, from the other ones I know, I suspect that by-and-large, they're comfortably to the left--maybe that's why I like them.)
