Looking to get input on painters/frame restoration. Starting a new project bike (Dawes frameset from (1960s?) . . . )

I live in Cincinnati, OH so the closer the better to factor shipping costs out of the equation. But willing to look anywhere in the US for reputable painters.

Thanks everyone!

The best? Joe Bell in Spring Valley California. Shipping won't vary a whole bunch regardless where you send it. Shipping will be a very tiny part of the cost

i saw a couple of Keith Anderson restorations last week. Hig quality stuff.

Check out Bilenky in Philly too. Never seen any of their resto work, but the detail on one of their NAHBS bikes wasnt too shabby.

Don't worry about shipping as it will only be a very small factor in the total restoration cost.
Find the painter whom you like and send it off. Suggestions above are very good.

In Cincinnati go to Jim's Bicycle Shop, he does restoration work.
Jim sends some of the work to Franklin Frames in Springboro, Oh, Franklin
has been building and painting for a long time. Paint will look appropriate for your Dawes.

Chris Kvale and Doug Fattic are excellent framebuilder/painters if you want to
go farther afield, to upper the midwest.

ALso there is one of the paint men from Serotta, that not to long ago posted , he was going on his own. I beleive he is in the Saratoga area.

Perhaps one of the other forumites can shine in, if they remeber his name.

What about Rody of Groovy Cycleworks - he does paint/repaint in addition to building frames and restoring frames/forks.

Ohio based too.

Here are two places in the Midwest that won't break the bank:

I'm guessing that you may be facing $650 or more for a top-quality restoration of the finish.
Is the bike worth that kind of investment?

Try Franklin Frames, he stays under the radar but I have seen his work in person. He is out of Newark Ohio.

He is near Allentown PA and is second to none. My other favorite is Joe Bell.

Another painter in the Midwest is Chris Kvale:

If we're talking about painters outside the Midwest too, Keith Anderson of Oregon does superb restorations:

That thing was as bad or worse than the Dawes I want to restore. Look at it now!

Ditto on the Kvale suggestion.

He did a great job repainting my Serotta CO LT. (He's in Minn- St Paul)
