Anyone out there own a similar 1986ish era Serotta in pearl white? I am guessing the year based on Shimano 600ex parts on the bike that it is an 1986.

I have been documenting the re-birth of this bike on my blog, but so far have not decided between duplicating original white pearl paint with gold pantographing and blue decals or doing a 7-11 tribute bike with Serrota decals in white/black.

I was there when Eric Heiden in 1980 won his first Gold Medal so that might be cool. And I got in a wreck in the El Tour de Tucson with Alex Stieda, so the 7-11 tribute would have personal meaning too.

The serial number is 51001. Let me know if you have something close to that serial number, that has an actual history. All I know about the bike is the Columbus SPX/SLX tubing by checking the seat tube , down tube and stays for the 6 raised edges.

I've been recently informed that my Nova Special X is an 1986 model with the serial number 61048. SLX tubing, red fade to white. From looking at mine, it appears that the paint itself isn't pearl, but the clear coat is. Here is a picture of mine.

Nova Special X. I think you are right. Wondering out loud why mine has over the top of bottom bracket cable routing and yours have under BB Routing. Nice pic though, it is a beauty.

also colors and name - - send Steve a note at Fitwerx and tell him I gave his name...He is the world expert of Serotta bikes and is a fellow who has more than one. Additionally he is one of the best fitters and wrenches I have ever know, Yep, I never said I was not biased on things :) :D
