Ok let me try- you see the pivot near the seat collar right? Picture the bike pivoting up and down from there (though they did not travel very far down- the travel was mostly up) then the cable (downtube) acted to limit and dampen the travel (see the spring near the head tube?) I rode a MTB version of one years ago- they feel like you are riding an inchworm or pogo stick. The real knock on them was that as the bike flexes your wheel based changes as does your head angle- it is like the bike is morphing its geometry as you ride- these were really developed as a form of front suspension not as duel action- The are interestion quirky bikes that any collector should consider- you get a ton of looks when you ride one- I bet more than on any serotta ;)

I remember way back when that retarded bull**** publication "Bicycling" did a review of their road bikes, going on about how it increased forward energy, or some crap like that...

Ha! You guys are typing like the company is gone...

It's still around. (Michigan boys, from Grand Rapids) They even build 650Cs and many of their bikes fold for travel (how hard is it to fold a cable?)

(I've seen them, I know people who ride them and love them but I've never ridden one on the trail myself...)

They enjoyed some mild popularity among tri heads some years ago, I think the De Boom Bros rode them for awhile, and spoke favorably of them, and I don't think they were sponsored. Could be wrong about that sponsorship though.
