Here in sunny central California with temps of 62-67 degrees and light breezes, I just returned from a 30 mile ride thru the hilly wine country near home. I took off alone, but along the way met up with 3 separate groups of riders I knew. I rode with each group for a bit and soloed the remainder of the ride.
What great combination of weather, geography and friends!
I hope you all had a great ride as well.
Ugh I'm soooo jealous. Cold rain and a wind advisory here today. 2.5 hrs on the trainer...Merry Christmas to me

Just did a slow and hilly 15 miles on my fixed gear bike (47/18). The temperature's in the high 60s here in the San Fernando Valley. I'm considering taking on a nearby singletrack in a little bit. I live in NYC, so I'm loving being in California right now!

We went on a great ride today -- the first annual Jewish Christmas ride. Rode off road in the snow and on road out for Szechuan food at a great restaurant and back. I took the first spill -- which was fun since it was in the snow -- three seconds after we started riding off road. Riding in the snow is fun if you dress warmly!

Yeah, Steve, I can tell that it's really killing you.
First it was 40's with lots and lots of rain and wind for a few days. A cold front moved in and now it's teens and 20's with a little snow and lots of wind. I've probably forgotten how to ride my bike...

Look, all you 'jealous' types:
I've personally been hoping for -20 degrees, with 6' of snow and 40 knot winds, but I am not in charge of the weather.
Alas, I must suffer

Next thing, you're going to tell us that your ride had a tailwind both ways and you averaged 28 mph... ;)

Hey peoples... Stop picking on Steve!
I had a nice solo 40 mile ride too in Sunny So Flo: mid 70s, partly cloudy but 15-18 mph winds.
Nice day alright, but I felt like crap after last nights Latin X-mas party and the morning gym weight session.
Cheers!

Cold-weather guys--
Don't be too jealous of us California folks. It's not that nice here. I almost had to put on armwarmers for my ride.
Best,

Wow, it got below 70*? That's rough. Watch for when you start to slur your words, then you know it's way too cold. That will probably happen to you around 68* or so, I would guess. ;)

Cold and very damp, mid 30's with about 90% humidity. The kind of weather that mkes you wish it was few degrees cooler with some sun. Nonetheless, great couple of hours with a good friend who was his new road rig, atitanium Scattante rig with Chorus 11 and then into the hot tub.

That's pretty funny. I had mine on and pulled them off in the driveway before I took off.
Really though, I do feel sorry for anyone in blizzard conditions.
That being said, there are these newfangled things called 'planes' that usually beat the stagecoach out west.

I decided I would explore Tyler, TX by bike, since this was probably my only chance to ride into town without getting mown down on the accursed loop. It was just above freezing and sunny - quite nice for a ride. I wound up spending 2+ hours exploring and riding South. Fun!

And the sauce from the fresh bean sprouts could have been used for embrocation...
The hard thing in winter riding for me is stopping, then getting back on the bike and riding home. Well, that and I was so full that I couldn't pedal the bike - who knew you could burp in that many flavors??? But it turned out so easy. We got there, locked our bikes, went inside, Paczki ordered a beer before we were seated, and the helmets, golves and outter layers all came off. I started feeling a slight chill, but the dan dan noodles took care of that right away. So while we may have looked like a gaggle of idiots trying to ride on snow covered trails (pictures to come), the plan was genius and it will continue to be me christmas tradition for years to come.

On my Christmas morning ride, I saw an older gentleman with a thick white beard and red training out fit pedaling in Sleepy Hollow, NY.

Chirstmas Day - a short spin on the rollers before having the kids and spouse/boyfriend for Filets with Basalmic-Port Reduction and Carengie Deli Cheesecake.
The upside to the cold and snow is that the skiing's great!

Morning started out around 65, rode up to Boca and back along A1A. Later that afternoon I think we reached 80. I'm from NY, I know all about cold rides and snow, I sure don't miss it. I'm enjoying first year in FL, but the summers are killers and no hills.

5 straight days of riding(3 mountain days/2 road days) almost 200 miles of great riding. Breaking in a new Christmas present a 2010 21.5 pound Turner Flux Lefty with the new DW link that just kick major as$. Cleaning trails with it that I've never cleared before and made in the USA. Sweet week for sure.
