I'm overhauling my 1993 Colorado tg and want to know if anyone has experience with the Chris King Gripnut threaded headset. I see many posts about people pressing them in with home made presses and am curious about the following:

1) Has anyone dealt with pressing these in without the specific CK adapters?
2) CK insists that you must face and ream the head tube. Anyone have any experience either way? They claim you will not get the best performance if you do not face and ream.

Anyone with similar experiences?

It was properly reamed and faced when it was made. Just be sure it's clean, apply a light coat of grease and have at it.

My press is a gi-normous bolt (1"), a nut and a couple flat washers. I have pressed CK 1" headsets in several properly reamed/faced bikes without problem (though when the local co-op shop is open, I do on occasion use their Campag toolset).
