I'm a big fan of dogs and seeing as dogs and bikes are two of (if not) the best things to infiltrate human civilization how about a dog/ dog+bike thread. Pics of you riding with your dog, pics of your dog (pretending) to ride your bike, pics of your dog chewing on your dugasts. how bout it?

i love my dog and used to bike with her
in a special cycling backpack made for dogs...
...until i found myself sprawled across the pavement
wiping out on a family vacation several years back...
we still paddle together regularly (first shot last week
up at our lake place in the bulrushes and the second
this summer with my three daughters in their homemade boats)
and the third shot is of her and me after riding support
for the leading ladies marathon this past august.
so, a few shots to get the thread rolling perhaps:

nice boats.... I think I remember a thread about those before.
my dog, a lab, is over 13 yrs old and spends most of his time going in and out of the front door.
he was a great grouse dog only because he loved running around.

Spiderman, that first pic made me smile. Great Photo. :)

makes me smile, too...
...especially while i was watching my wife take the picture
with my telephone
straining in her own boat
to get just the right angle
without flipping over
and without being able to even see the screen.
i wish i had a video of her taking that shot!

Our son here in KC, who has a heart as big and soft as his parents, took custody of an emaciated pit bull today that was clearly being neglected by one of his so-called friends. There was an intervention apparently and Joel took this poor thing home. Going to the vet Monday and we're all going to nurse her back to health. Good news, she took to Joel's other dog, has bright eyes and is quite playful.

I need to get more pics of my best friend... Truckie. He is the best dog (sorry folks) out there - bar none. At least he is to me...

He is snoring at my feet as I type. No biking with him, but we do run together. We had a nice 3 mile run today. The trolley trail (Oella) for those in the know...

He is perfect - runs right next to me, doesn't get distracted by the other dogs - just keeps pace.

i'd say APBT, he came from the shelter as a little bity pup. i'm his uncle. he's a sweet guy but can be intimidating to people that aren't used to big willful dogs*. in that picture.
i can tell in that pic he's waiting for some food to fall...

that doesn't mean he's disobedient though. he's a good dog.

Well, actually no. I really recognize few professional cyclists. I thought that the photo was very interesting because of the dynamics of the interaction of your dog. I pay close attention to dog communications and how people react to dogs and vice versa. I thought the cyclist might be some pro. Much more interesting to me was how he was holding your dog's head, as is if he really liked dogs, and it might be his dog. Both were looking at each others eyes indicating to me a focus on each other. Wasn't sure, because the ears of your dog looked as if they might be down/back some.

I vacillated as I thought perhaps the cyclist was a pro or maybe he was you and you are on some cycling team.

I guess you can take the following from my comments- I thought that the cyclist might be you. I am sure you would love to have his cycling abilities.....

I have an adopted rescue shelter APBT. His breed was given as APBT. One vet thought he is an American Staffordshire Terrier. It really makes little difference as at one time the two breeds were identical. The American Kennel Club's American Staffordshire Terrier were all bred down from the United Kennel Club's APBT. In fact, a single dog can be both registered as an APBT in the UKC and as an American Staffordshire Terrier in the AKC (at least that was the case, for sure). But some say there is a difference as APBTs are bred for more reasons and hence they are more likely to vary in appearance and sizes. No matter what, yours is beautiful!

Wow! Are the visible ones all pit bull/pit bull mixes? Are some young dogs? Very impressive that they all get along. How many live with you? Adopted/rescues/breeders? Like to know more about them.

Hi Sandy,

The far left (auburn colored) is a pit mix, got her as a rescue puppy in 2003. The black and white one that's next over to the right is the new one, one week in my son's house, 8 months old. She's a pure bred American Staffordshire Terrier and just saw a vet for the first time this last week. She's having to be nursed back to health, weighed in at 28 pounds this week. The invisible dog is a black lab. My other son has a beagle mix (brown and white), he visits at Christmas and New Years and they all get along. Finally, at the far right is a Boston Terrier/ pit mix that we acquired as a rescue in 2004 when she was a year old.

We were nervous about introducing the new one and there was a little bit of growling but everyone settled down and got along very well.
