... so where do I get decent road brake shoes?

Everywhere I look it's almost cheaper to buy an entire caliper just to get the shoes. The prices are crazy for such a small item. I already have the pads, I bought them for use on my daily driver, but it turns out that I had the "rubber holder" type of shoes, which do not allow you to replace the pad. All you can do is toss the whole thing out.

TIA

No, I'm cheap.

When you're an engineer being cheap is nothing to be ashamed of.

$43 for 2 pairs of Jagwire shoes + pads

$37 for 2 pairs of Shimano shoes + pads

I rest my case.

I already have new pads. It's the shoes (holders) I need.

These are the best one's I've used. Make swapping for carbon and metal a breeze with no tools...

Hey, exactly what I was looking for ....................... NOT. :D

BTW, since it's being offered by a "Boutique" I'd be willing to pay twice that, just to know that I've purchased it from a Boutique.
