Wow, a 1972 Campy equipped Paramount wasn't necessarily cheap at $350 but dig this... you could get it any color (including all chrome!) at no extra cost and if one of the seven stock sizes didn't fit you one could be custom built made to measure for $40 (yes forty dollars) more!

Yep. Back then were the good old days before this obsession became cost prohibitive. :crap:

I bought my first 10 speed (it was 10 speeds) in 1969 or 1970 during the Eddy Merckx bike craze. It was a different time for bikes.

In Seattle at Gregg's Greenlake you had to put a deposit on a bike and wait for the next boat shipment to come in. Nothing available to purchase immediately.

I bought the Peugeot U08 for about $90 to $95. My friend bought the other choice a Peugeot PX10 with sewups for about $110 as I recall. I am not sure if he ever rode his. The only color choice for either bike was white.

Pretty uncomplicated compared to today.

Man talk about the wayback machine.

My first bike was a 1966 Sky Blue Schwinn Varsity. That thing was bullet-proof but heavier than snot.

Thanks for the link.

Interesting, too, that the only helmet to be seen in the consumer brochures was in the one for the track frame (and that just barely, a black hairnet).

Love the illustration for the Professional Road Racing Paramount:

Where is that, Golden Gate Park?

It looks like the yellow Paramount has a Brooks saddle.

I have a 72 P15-9, original owner. 22" It's been repainted from yellow to a forrest green met. My riding days are about over and I am willing to part with it. If anyone is interested, pm me. I travel alot, I'll see your message and get back to you.

Ah, that brings back fond memories of my old lemon yellow sports tourer. It was the huge 26" size and it weighed over 30 pounds but it could really roll. I did my first centuries on that bike. Those bronze-brazed Schwinns were better bikes than they were given credit for. My current CDA reminds me of that bike.
