Don't know if this came up on the forum earlier, if not, it should not pass without notice. The doors are closed due to health issues.

I much agree that it's a shame that Jay Guthrie is so ill. His creative engineering, combined with being a good person -- in my contacts with him -- make that a real loss for the cycling community.

The main item I bought from him was the ShiftMate, which I think of as the ultimate bike freedom part. Freedom to mix and match Campy with Shimano, 9-speed with 10-speed. And it works so well.

Dave, who has several bikes set up with Campy shifters and Shimano cassettes and rear derailleurs

His products have faithfully served those of us that like to have it "our way." I was really digging were he was headed with the bar end type controls for internal gear hubs, and was looking forward to a model that covered the SRAM iMotion9.

He has more important matters to attend to presently. Peace to the good gentleman, and a glass raised for KCA (Kicking Cancers @ss).

Well said. I hope he wins his battle.

DropStop product looks pretty effective, too.
Best wishes that he wins the fight.

Saw this in the classies. Always good to hear that a unique and well thought out product is still available:
FYI, I just noticed this morning that Shiftmates are available again. They're being sold via eBay, but don't be put off by the fact the seller has zero feedback, that's just Jay's son taking over the operations.

Also, if you'd like to donate to Jay Guthrie -- a fundraiser from his local bike club in Minnesota -- you can go here:

Jay Guthrie Fundraiser (http://www.rideandglide.org/fundraiser.htm)

I have no connection to this club, this fundraiser, or Jay Guthrie.

No connection other than he created a unique gizmo that allows me to combine Campy and Shimano in a way that makes my bikes better than ever.

Simply: I enjoy cycling more because of his work.

And in my talks with him over the years, a good man.

It appears that Jay Guthrie passed away late last month.

His son has taken over operations of Jtek.
