Okay so I have a new Indy Fab "independence" touring frameset...hooray!
I also have a beautiful wheelset build by Peter White complete with a front SON hub to power my lighting system.
For the front headlight I have a Lumotec IQ Fly for the front headlight.
My frame has canti brakes though the fork crown is not drilled.
I would ideally want to mount the headlight on the fork crown but does anyone have other suggestions?
I also have a Tubus Nova front rack but can't figure out if that's a possibility.
I've read that the fork crown is the ideal position to mount a headlight. I've considered the handlebars & fork blade but I'm not sure. This is my first dynamo lighting system.
Indy Fab quoted $80 for the fork drilling plus a week turn around time.
Any ideas or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Drill the fork crown yourself.
Use new drill bits.
Use a center punch to mark the spot and prevent the drill bit from drifting.
Drill a pilot hole with a small bit such as 1/8" and work up from there.
My headlight uses a fork crown mount and it works well.
I wouldn't drill the fork just to mount the light. I'd probably go with one of those "chronometro" fork mounts:

Scroll down a bit.
These are well proven.

Well I'm not mechanically enclined to drill myself. I'd just screw it up!
I like that clamp if I were to mount on the fork blade but I feel like that having the headlight on the fork I'd be more prone to damage it.
Whatcha think?

This handlebar option worked well for me on several 1200K's, though I think its only available for 26.0 bars. Might also check SJS Cycles in the UK.

I have my E-6 mounted on my front fork. How does the light work for you on the handlebars?
Thanks,
Paul
I have an Edelux mounted on 31.8 bars. Works great. Peter White has mounts for OS bars. Not sure if it applies to all headlights but some advocate a front fender if mounting on the fork crown to minimize spray to the underside of the light.
Another option is the skewer nut mount like this from velo-orange.

I now have an Edelux on the fork crown and prefer that, but with a strong enough light I think either is ok. I'm not sure I'd want to run a single E6 on the handlebar. For PBP '07 I was still using twin E6's and the setup looked like this.

If you really don't want to drill the fork yourself, you could look in the yellow pages for a machine shop. Depending on your area, I'm guessing you could fine someone to do it while you wait for less than sending it to IF.
Option 2, install a threadless-headset-stye star nut in the bottom of the steerer tube and use that as a mounting point, possible with an L bracket if needed.

Take a look at the Paul eyelet mount avail at Harris in Newton MA. Also, a guy in Louisville makes a front wheel skewer with a light mount extension, but I don't know who sell them. Maybe Velo Orange?
