This is an Appel. Nice history as it was built by Mike Appel, one of the premier builders at Trek. The frame is Columbus SL, and was assembled in '88. It's 53 cm.

Plans are to first repaint it. The seller and I discussed the authenticity of road rash on the frame, and while I did agree nostalgia is sort of fun, the frame is a bit rough.

After paint, I plan on SRAM Rival and Mavic wheels. A Brooks saddle will top it off.

And there you have it! :)

You have to post something from the "Big Few". To get any kind of reaction.

It most likely will ride as good as any bike you have ever owned.

I have an old, ugly, lugged Curtlo that is a wondreful riding frame.

The "Big Few." That's funny. Reminds me of "The Big Three" in the car industry. :D

By the way, if I do paint it, I may go after famous race car livery. Gulf-Porsche comes to mind.
