Question.

Will this type of lever work with cantilevers on their own (i.e. with no sti-type brake/ gear levers on the bars)? I know they can work with calipers, but I'm not sure about cantilevers.

Thx, J.

The real key to getting road levers to work with cantilever brakes is wide or short brake arms and long straddle cables (don't use the set length splitter type straddles that run the main cable all the way down to one brake--use a traditional hanger and separate straddle cable that allow you to set the length). If you get the cable geometry right, they should work well. If in the market for a set, I have a like new pair that came on a Felt I'd sell for $15 shipped (in US).

As an aside, I run a cable pull disc on the front of my mountain bike and a cantis on the back, using the same long pull v-type levers. With a really short straddle cable, the rear brake works really well with that incorrect lever.
