i am looking for those small rubber thingamajigs that slip into the brake cable
that prevent the bare wire hitting the top tube.
I'm not sure what they are called or who makes them.
Any clues?

Right, cable donuts. Your LBS should have them and at worst would sell you some. Usually, they're gimmes.

Even cooler is gray plastic sheathing that disappears better than cable donuts and does a superior job of protecting paint finishes. One would have to look around.

Ray, why don't you make some curly pig-tail versions of this?

That way I won't have to undo the brake pinch bolt on my De Rosa to install them.

Funny how my Shimano bikes all have enough tension and the cable doesn't rattle or hit the TT. On the Campy bike ping, ping, ping. Yet more proof that Shimano is better than Campy.

but they (pigtails) still need a slot ..... so ya don't have to disconnect.
Oh .... I see where you are going with this .... interesting idea ...

Jagwire make " tube tops" frame protectors as they call them.

The wider flair at both ends fit around the tubing as otherwise they can move out of place over time.
