Even if the Colnago isn't quite my cup of espresso. The current bids are scary!

Those older Colnagos had a magic appeal to them. They were no better or worse than most other bikes from Italy BUT THEY HAD THE COLNAGO APPEAL.

Many Italian bikes, at least from that era, were built in small sub contract shops and then sent to the "DON". The magic quite often was more than the ride of a kellogg, jim redcap, masi, or Koga Myata.

I'm too cheap to buy "vintage." I'll stick to just plain old.

Those photos look suspiciously like Ray Dobbins pictures, quality, lighting, angles etc. It may be worth checking his gallery. Possibly the bike was sold to this seller but I wonder.

Oh no...the Colnago is my size! Must not look at the pics ever again.

Now the question is: If you bought either of those bikes, would you ride them?
Once, often, occasionaly or never?

This is what came to mind when I saw these pics last night. Do you buy a bike like this to ride it or hang it on a wall and look at it?

Speedbicycles has a great studio space, bicycle collection and online gallery. I think that maybe Ray has picked up a few tips from him....

An interesting parallel in cars: lately buyers have been paying BIG premiums for cars with almost zero miles. Most are interesting but not real limited production models with great inherent value. Lots of other folks are wondering what a buyer can do with such a car. If he paid 50%-100% more than he could have paid for a similar car with 5,000 miles he can't afford to drive his investment. The premium was because it had ultra low miles but that goes away as soon as he starts driving it.

Man.. I don't usually like Colnagos.. but man, that is one gorgeous bike... and it's my size.. Well, it might be a bit too big for my budget tho.

Gorgeous. Probably my fave Nago I've ever seen.

That's been my dilemna with the classics. I LOVE this era of bike but can't justify holding onto something that I'll ride a little less than occasionally. It's had a significant impact on my fleet this past year and may prompt me to sell a couple of my most-loved, but not often ridden bikes in the next month or two.

Oh yeah, that is a BEAUTIFUL Bianchi and jaw-dropping Colnago! :)
