actually, for my very subjective personal tastes, a thin tubed steel track bike, painted in say pearl white, would look better. perhaps much better. hey, you asked.

I will have to agree with Climb here- old school steel track bikes do it for me- quill stem and all

very nice Colnago, but I think e-richie's recently built retro track bike takes the cake:

sorry, too much on my mind right now to properly insert the photo (second baby due in early March)

Uh, I dunno . . . that stem looks mighty short!

But then again, I keep hearing that size doesn’t matter . . . ;)

the jerk thinks everything on that bike is short. it's a japanese keirin bike for a small japanese rider.....well, the jerk supposes the drop of the bars isn't all that short.

beeman-wow you really like yello huh? and the jerk thought only he lived that much up to his moniker....

any bike will look better if it's blue. particularly steel bikes.

. . . that could be mighty useful for, say, taking a stab at the hour record? Not that I’m suggesting anybody from the Dis-Co’s would actually ATTEMPT such a foolish thing . . . ;)

here's a question from the exam from Trek University: Why don't the OCLV bikes have replacable dropout tabs? Because the dropout itself is replacable. So how hard was it to take a Madone and replace the dropouts with track dropouts (And could someone please tell Sheldon Brown that I used the term "track dropout" - drives him nuts!!!) and build a 130mm spaced track wheel? The least they could have done is found a bar without cable grooves.

That bike is just a preliminary machine for testing I bet. If Lance really goes for the hour record you can be sure it will be on a bike which is really pushes the UCI's interpretation of a "standard" track bike. Lance is known as a mega perfectionist and if this group considers actually building a track for the event, then you can be ther the bike will not be left to chance. There will be no exposed cable grooves on any such bike and the wheels will be as narrow as possible. And shod with Dugast silks.
