Please help me decide what components to put on my bike! I recently purchased the Della Santa frame/fork shown in the pictures (56.5 cm c-t-c). Now I'm in the process of deciding what components to get for it. My only criteria is I will only consider Campy parts. If this was your bike, what components would you put on it, including wheels, bar, stem, saddle, etc? What colors would you choose for the bars, stem, wheels, saddle, etc? Would you go retro looking, or modern? Thanks!!

In my opinion, all the fixtures should be silver; stem, seat post, bars, wheels, controls, bottle cages, etc., if you want it to look right. This would also eliminate anything carbon, so 9-speed chorus would be the perfect finish. End result would be a "classic" look with modern gear. Saddle? A tan, or antique brown Brooks 'anything that fits you well'. Bar tape color will be the hardest choice. You've got two primary colors on the bike; red and white, either of which would be the 'quick' choice for bar tape color. What I would do would be to match or compliment the saddle color by using tan Cinelli tape for a honey Brooks, or Brick Red Cinelli tape to compliment the Antique Brown Brooks.
And then of course a discreetly applied small Serotta Forum sticker on the front of the seat tube just above the World Champion stripes.

10 speed record carbon w black dt wheels, black vittoria open cx's,
black oval concepts bar and stem, red tape, red aspide saddle.

You will get the 10-speed drivetrain without the carbon.

The key to a "coordinated" look is in the details. To me, the biggest detail overlooked is the cable housing. Everybody just uses what comes in the box. They have no taste. They are swine.
To avoid this, your cables should be white.
A white saddle would be nice.
All white bar tape looks extra classy, and when it gets dirty you'll bike will look like you actually ride a lot.
No black; you'll confuse the color scheme; and that includes the components, so if you use Campy the choose something silver. And that means no black seatpost or handlebars either. How you're going to find a non-black stem is beyond me, but if you had REAL style, you'd buy a stem and ship it to Spectrum Powderworks and have them powdercoat it white. I just did this with a couple bottle cages and a rear rack; worth every penny.
White bottle cages are a go; silver isn't your color scheme and it just looks like a lack of effort in color coordination.
Bonus points if you have a frame pump and it's white.
I second the e-Ritchie look. It's a new bike don't try to make it look old.

I third the e-Richie look. The carbon cranks are very cool, if your budget will accept. They add nothing in performance but are very nice looking.
Have fun building.

Thanks for all the great responses! I was thinking of going retro (with classic silver components), but after looking at some of the pictures posted of lugged steel bikes with black/carbon components, I'm not so sure anymore...

I gotta go with the silver.
a) It's fun to disagree with e-Richie
2) Pete should come up here and drink some Zin with me.
iii) I really think that silver will look good and that's what I'm doing with my CSi
Peter, you are funny. My feelings, however, are hurt from the realization that I have no style. I use the housing that comes with the cables. I feel . . . how shall I say this? Base and soiled.
the little black dress works wonders, goth is kool,
tarting it up with silver is ok.
