How's the DeRosa Planet fit in their model line up?

And, may be a dumb question, but Shimano or Campy build????

Must be Campy on a DeRosa. Shimano would be criminal. ;)

Like many of the 'classic' Italian steel frames, it no longer fits into the current mode. More money to be made with carbon fiber, aluminum, etc. If you want a more traditional, and still built in the 'old' (but that does not mean bad, just the converse) way, check out http://www.tommasiniusa.com/ Other than the steel Pegoretti or a Nagasawa (and be prepared to wait a looonnnggg time there) the only real way to get a 'real steel' Italian ride in an upper end frame. The Planet was an aluminum frame....DeRosa's first. We can still wax nostalgic about its passing, though....THOSE were the days- back when frames were TIG-welded aluminum........

2005 Derosas include 2 steel models - Corum and NeoPrimato

Corum is tig weld steel
Neo-primato (been around for awhile) this year is lugged steel with crowned steel threadless fork. - Matt

The Planet, with its pearl white paint job, is a "Chick Magnet". Is there anything else that is iimportant? What more can one else want from a bike?

The Macro is the replacement for the Planet. The Planet was built with Dedaccai Scandium tubing and IIRC, had a rider weight limit imposed on the frame (I know the Merak did). The Macro is built with 7005 series AL so it's more robust and does not have any rider weight limits. You can get great deals on 2004 De Rosa's right now.

ANY and ALL Italian road frames get Campagnolo. DA-7800 10-speed on everything else. Jeff N.
