Ray recommends the new softgrip Hudz over the original. Who else has tried the original (new and improved?) and softgrip versions and which do you recommend?

they both suck IMHO. the soft compound sucks less. i'll stick with real campy hoods in the future. the hudz stretch, move, rip, and get filthy.

frankly i am amazed at how poorly they made these. if campy has been able to do it right for 10+ years, why, with the modern technology available, can't hudz get it at least as good?

My stock black rubber Campagnolo hoods have proven satisfactory.
No experience with aftermarket Hudz replacements.

No Hudz here either.

Factory SRAM for my white hoods.

The new Hudz are far superior to the older versions..

I really like em. ;)

Bruce get rid of that SRAM stuff and get the new Ultegra. I will take the SRAM off your hands.... :)

I'm not sure I'd know how to shift the Shimano anymore if I did that. ;)

I speed bumped over the Hudz completely about a year ago and bought a set of Far and Near hoods for Campy 10. Still look like new and fit perfectly. Fairwheel is a dealer for these.

Good point. I researched hoods last year and these were by "far and away" the most recommended (pun intended). My LBS carries the Hudz and in the meantime Hudz has supposedly greatly improved their product so I am leaning towards them.

I have a set of the 'original' Hudz on one bike and a set of the 'new' original Hudz on another and the new ones are many times better in fit and feel; no squirming or deformation. I haven't tried the SoftGrip model yet.

I have Ultegra 10-speed triple and it seems like I remember 6500 as the series number. It is model year 2006 I believe. Will the current Hudz model designed for 6600 series fit my shifters or do I need an older model Hudz?

If you have an Ultegra 10-speed triple it is a model 6603, not the 6500 (9-speed series). The Hudz for the 6600 series will fit your shifters.

Not sure which Hudz I have (whatever QBP stocks), but after 3 sets, I won't consider going back to SRAM hoods.

2 bikes...

on one of them, i swapped saddles, which led to swapping bar tape...which led to swapping hood color.

Thanks. Last night I was trying to retrieve that information on Shimano's website and the documents were loading so slowly that I gave up.

I've tried all 3 - old, new soft and new regular. Old suck the most, then new soft, then new regular. Really really really poorly made product. As others have said, they move, bunch up, get dirty and aren't durable. Most of all, they are the reason I need to rebuild my right 10-speed Campy Chorus shifter.

I like the idea and have been impressed with customer service, but at the end of the day the product itself really really really sucks. Stay away from it, imo.

Is there a dramatic cost differential between aftermarket Hudz compared to stock factory replacements or something?
If the fit isn't precise, this is only something done many years apart, so it might be worth the greater cost of factory replacement.

it sounds like the hudz are worst for campy users. i've heard reasonably positive reviews from shimano and sram users. there is another company called far and near making colored after market hoods for all brands and models. the reviews and images seem much more promising, espeecially for campy users. the US reseller appears to be fairwheelbikes.com and the price is a reasonable $25.

i will probably give them a try for my new cross bike.

I must have a light touch on the bars or something because my hoods wear for years.
The pebble-grain texture is worn on my bikes, but they remain serviceable.
Open to ideas because they'll likely need replacement someday.

I have the new regulars on Campy 10 QS. Had to trim the opening where the thumb button swings in order to get rid of the drag the hoods were causing.

Would not have needed to replace except a crash took out both hoods, but spared the shifters. Tried the Hudz for the heck of it. Will probably go back to Campy if these don't last.
