What do you think of them?

I have a good friend who is many years my elder and in the sport since the mid 1950s. He has ridden tubulars almost exclusively and in the last few years has switched over to the Tufos. He raves about them. He won't stop singing their praises. He evangelizes about them.

They look a bit pricy, but he claims to get about 10k miles out of a set and only one flat due to a sidewall cut in the last 2 years.

Opinions?

I've ridden their pure tubies, and found them to be very slow and a poor ride. haven't ridden the tubular clinchers, but I'd expect about the same. that said, I'm light. Tufos have good flat resistance, I hear.

In my experience they give you all the negatives of using a tubular with none of the benefits of using clinchers. I would either ride tubulars and get all the advantages of performance and feel or use a high quality clincher like a veloflex. Either way they will ride better then the tufos.

on our ibis tandem...
admittedly they don't have high mileage
but i really like how lively and smooth they make the tandem ride.
mounting takes a little patience/practice
but well worth it, i think.
they have been very durable.
we were have numerous pinch flats before the change
and now have been puncture-free for 4 years!

I have the cross tub/clincher. I had problems getting them mounted and gave up. :crap:
