View Full Version : Any heavier riders on DA-7801 tubulars?

Are there heavier guys here who are riding the DA-7801 tubulars? I am thinking of putting these under me, but with some hesitation. I am pretty close to 200lbs and am not sure they will take me. With the prospect of doing damage to them, I'd rather opt for some Mavics (those, I know, will carry me no problem).

I don't have specific experience on the DA-7801s, but I'm 205 and I've never broken any lightweight gear. It's all about how heavy you ride.

I'm emailing my buddy at shimano about this anyway, just to see.

I hear that those wheels are indestructable. I heard that from a shop owner. And he wasn't trying to make a sale. We were just talking wheels during a ride.

And please correct me if I am wrong great forum collective, but Shimano does not really play the "you need to weigh less than X" game. They seem to err on the side of way over engineered. As if they expect, nay DEMAND, that 250# weekend warriors will work their fancy race bits with high watts and total disregard to potholes.

But, I dunno, I can only afford ultegra. :(

No issue on my set of carbon dura ace tubular wheels. 240 pounds.

I've thoroughly used and abused a set of 7800's. Love 'em. They're as true as they were day one. Not one problem ever. I weigh 200, +,- 10 depending on the season and beer availability.

I have the think the carbon rims would be just as hearty.

Thanks to everyone! I am convinced. The 7801 tubulars will be the wheelset on the Merlin I'm currently building. God speed!

I'm late to the party, but my guy at shimano says they'll be just fine. No published weight limit, and they're pretty tough wheels.

At my party, latecomers are welcome. Thanks, Jeremy!

I have some. They're interesting wheels, and not as flexible as you'd think. I'm currently at 230# (but coming down) and feel fine on them. I'll have them at Six Gap, most likely.
