What's really scarey is how many people will actually respond to crap like that.

What's really scarey is how many people will actually respond to crap like that.

It is a numbers game. If, you sent out 100,000 mailings. A 1% response gives you a 1000 people/returns. People aren't stupid or lazy. They could be in a hurry, or under pressure from other events in their lives, etc. Those are just some of the reasons scams work. People are human. I was in the computer field. I knew/know a great deal about computer scams. And yet, I "innocently" sent $2,000 to a scam artist and lost it all.
I was pissed but every now and then I need a lesson in humility. I am always sorry that such lessons have to be so painful and so expensive. But, those "lessons" do serve the purpose of keeping my egocentricity in check.

. . . claiming to be from Earthlink support (my IP). The standard stuff . . . "send us this info to keep your account current" and then they want you user name and password.

What scares me more than how they got my e-mail address is that I can't seem to find any way to report this to Earthlink. When I try to e-mail what's supposed to bbe the public e-mail address listed for their support, I get a message indicating it's a list serve and I'm not part of the list.
