Has anyone actually held a set of Ultegra 6700 shifters in their hands yet?

I should reach the top of cpg's list sometime this fall and can't decide on a build.

I currently have builds with Centaur 10 sp, DA 10 sp, and ultegra 9.

Centaur fits my hands the best (small hands, stubby fingers). DA 10 is not bad. Ultegra 9 is my least favorite because the shifters are large and bulbous.

I could really go either way......Campy Chorus or Record, or DA or the new Ultegra. Any opinions on the feel of the shifters?

When I saw them, they seemed to be the same as DURA ACE in feel of resting my hands on them - I have not used them though, Understand they are to be available this month in limited quantities. (am hearing the cranks are in short supply as were Dura Ace when they first came out,,,Do not know why.

I hear that they are lighter and snappier than DA 7800.

Tom Kellogg played with them and came out super impressed.

i bet they will be much more expensive than the 6800.

They also look like the business--A no bs, no compromise, function over form kind of group.

I like it.

Its in stock at online stores for about $1,500. i haven't seen what the weight weenies have to say about the real weight.

Looks solid though.

looks cool...i'll bet Shimano eventually positions this to "replace" Dura Ace, while Dura Ace will go electric with no conventional option.

$1,500? That's way pricey IMO, when Rival seems just as good.

Rival doesn't feel the same. The new Ultegra is nice. Wait a bit and prices will come down significantly.

Seems to me that Shimano did their homework with this one. Ultegra has historically been a significant step down from Dura Ace. SRAM has a winning formula with the way it parses out their groups - same shifter shape, same shift feel and function no matter what group you have. Differences are weight and graphics. My impressions on seeing and touching the new Ultegra are that it's much closer to Dura Ace than any previous parts to bear the name. Bodes well for a struggling Shimano.

In what sense is the big "S" struggling?
MY admittedly uninformed guess has been that SRAM is taking a good chunk out of Campy's hide (and probably S's hide too) but that for Campy it's a bigger percentage hit.

a certain "High end" bike shop downtown Saratoga Springs doesn't even have one bike with the new Ultegra or the new Dura Ace. All the high end serottas and pinarellos have Sram and Campy.

word has it, the shimano dealer to that shop is "going down very fast"

The apparent downfall is the cost/weight/performance ratio

I have Campy on my bikes but like the new Ultegra. Velonews Buyers Guide has a test of Ultegra, Force and Chorus and although they say a few negatives, my hands like the way the shifters felt and shifted. Big improvement over the old bulky set up.

Just read a review of the 6700 in this year's Velonews Buyer's Guide. If you have small hands, be sure to try them first. The reviewer said something about them being bigger than the 7900 levers and that they could be problematic for smaller hands. Also mentioned that the 'throw' was fairly long - another possible issue for smaller hands.

Haven't tried them myself - I'm still on DA7700!

A buddy of mine is selling some take off 6700 stuff. Compact 172.5 crank and BB, Shifters, brakeset, FD and RD. You can save a chunk on some nearly new stuff if you are interested. PM me. I'll try to have it up in the classifieds soon. Also have the same in a 6600 SL variety with a normal crank. He's finicky and doesn't like the trim feature on the front derailleur so he is upgrading to DA across the board.

I rode a new ultegra bike around a parking lot at a race last weekend. Prefer the new quicker and easier action over my 6600 and the feel of the smaller shifter body was nice too but both of these are personal preference of course.
