Under the hands of a master, these small bit of metal will transform into art and become my magic carpet to ride the winds on. BUT first they will be displayed for the world to see at the Rocky Mountain Bike Show.

Some folks believe that Art should have no value beyond it being art.

Just sayin'

There is a good chance it just might get mounted on the wall. Lord knows, I don't need another bike.

In which master's hands are these tubes being wrought into a frame??

In addition to the artistic value, what I also find amazing is the strength of the joints when completed and competed properly. Something like 125,000 psi tensile strength is the result. And the tubes or other parts like dropouts, etc can be taken apart or replaced if needed for repair purposes. Amazing.

Picking my master builder was a long and drawn out process. I first came up with a list of builders that was a real Who’s, Who of US frame builders and then tried to meet as many as possible. A few really stood out, but the icing on the cake was that one was local, Mark Nobilette. I had seen his work on customs for Rene Herse, Zinn, and Rivendell and thought his award winning bikes at NAHBS were exceptional. But after meeting him, I knew that he understood what I was looking for and could build it. After spending a tremendous amount of time with him and giving him the rough concept of what I wanted, I left all the details to his creative mind. I expect a clean and classic design.

I have had several conversations about types and brands of steel and with him and several other builders. The more I learned about the sizes and brands the less interested I became in choosing one over the other. Mark offered to use what ever I wanted. But I have left the decision up to him. When I was there last week, I forgot to ask which steel type/brand he had chosen.

I like lugged carbon bikes but I don’t consider them artsy (I guess I have done too much plumbing work). They are light & stiff and make good use of your power. The Extreme C that I had was a real climber and was the fastest reacting bike I have been on, when I put the hammer down. Next year, I hope to add a Calfee Dragon fly, Parlee Z1 or Crumpton SL to the stable.

I dropped by Mark's shop earlier this week and he had just finished the front triangle and fork. Everything was still in rough-up stage but you can see the Masters hand at work...

A few pix for your enjoyment, (sorry my camera work is not so hot).

mark is building me a fork for a GT team frame that i picked up recently...he is orginal builder.

as far as tubing...davidson asked if i cared about having a tubing sticker on the frame. i said no so he used mostly reynolds but columbus SL fork blades since he feels they are better.

Nothing wrong with your camera it YOU! :fight:
Look at that last shot of the fork, great.
Learn to focus and use the flash or stay of the grog till the shakin' stops!
Look like its going to be an awesome frame.

Sure. You can use S3 too. The tubing wasn't designed to be worked with lugs, but you can do it (and hope, or plan, that it's not too far out of alignment after brazing/cooling).

Probably a 753 rear triangle. Pretty hard to cold set 853. I've had 2 Nobilettes, nice riding frames.

There's no accounting for philosophies and religions, is there? Some folks believe the strangest things. Pretty much that's OK, long as they mind their own business and don't go around trying to impose those beliefs on others.
