Orange County, CA ride help

I am posting this for a buddy who lives in Orange right on the circle. Way, way long ago he was a stud cyclist but lost that edge. Now he is trying to get back in the swing of things and ride again. When I was down there a few weeks ago we rode the Santa Ana River Trail. This is a good place for him to start. The problem was trying to get there without getting killed in the OC traffic or having to drive there.

Can someone local post the best route to go from the Orange Circle to the Trail on roads that are bike freindly.

Any help is appreciated. Also, let me know if you know of any other good beginner/intermediate rides you recommend for him (Santiago Canyon?)

Have him use Walnut north of Chapman that turns into Orangewood before it gets to the freeway and the Rivertrail.
Best way I've found over the years to get through Orange to and from the other side of the county. :beer:
